The beauty of this beach makes the committee of Sanur Village Festival – a Festival with various activities held in Sanur since 2005 and is organised by the Sanur Development Foundation, holding it on the Sunrise Beach in 2011 and 2018. Sanur is also one of the five tourist destinations in Indonesia that has its own observatories.
This tourism observatory is part of the Sustainable Tourism Observatory or STO. This function of STO as a center of monitoring and mentoring about sustainable tourism in each tourist destination.
According to the expert Minister of Tourism Field of sustainable tourism development, Valerina Daniel, World Tourism Organization or UNWTO has arranged 24 world tourist destinations that are listed as the location of its observatories and five of them are in Indonesian. "Seven STO again will be built soon," Valerina said to Tempo, Thursday, 14 February 2019.
The five observatory tourism in Indonesia is Pangandaran in collaboration with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Sanur in collaboration with Udayana University, Sleman in collaboration with Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and Pangururan Samosir works With the University of North Sumatra, and Sesaot in West Lombok in cooperation with the University of Mataram. Indonesia became the second country in Asia Pacific, after China implemented STO's program.
For Valerina, the presence of this STO is very important in supporting the sustainability of tourist destinations in Sanur and elsewhere in Indonesia. He sees all kinds of tourist products can enter into the concept of sustainable tourism. "It's a holistic concept, taking into account economic, social, environmental impacts."
